I love The Fool, he is numbered 0 for good reason, he can be placed at the beginning or the end of the Major Arcana as everything comes back to that first step in the end. He is pure potential energy, the seed of all happenings. In his jump from the cliff, there are no guarantees, no certain outcomes and he has no knowledge to keep him safe. The fool is innocent of the ills of the world and so leaps without fear. The first step on a journey sparks the flame that will ultimately light the way ahead but until the jump is made nothing exists except in theory. Of course, The Fool may leap and it may not the outcome he was hoping for but in learning to adapt with the skills of the next card ‘The Magician’ we will learn to navigate the world and it’s mysteries.
This is the card to draw strength from if you find yourself struggling with dread, worry or self-doubt in your life. The Fool is your inspiration, daring and carefree, he is your free spirit, your inner child, and your joyful soul. Any time you experience fear and find yourself reluctant to act, remember the lesson of the Fool as he encourages you to feel the fear and do it anyway! None of us know what the future holds, but sometimes we must be like the Fool and step into the unknown, trusting that the Universe will show you the way.
On the flip side (and isn’t there always a flip side), the reversed Fool warns against taking too many risks and behaving recklessly. In an attempt to live ‘in the moment’ and be spontaneous and adventurous, you may actually be acting with disregard of the consequences of your actions and engaging in activities that put both yourself and others at risk. The Fool is pure in his intent, he isn’t bound by fear but also takes full responsibility for his path. Look at the bigger picture and consider how you can keep the free spirit of the Fool positively without impacting the lives of others
